Valley ViewThe Ojai Valley, (used in the movie "Far Horizons" to represent the community of "Shangri-La"), is unique in Southern California. This small, community is nestled in this verdant bowl created by lines of hills that protect it on all sides. The Upper Ojai is set like a peanut above and to one side of the main valley and is the home of schools, horse ranches, cattle raising and orchards.

In the main valley, the small town is coddled by thriving citrus and avocado ranches, beautiful untamed national forest, fields and streams. Wild life abounds yet in town there are small residential streets leading out to large estates on the outskirts. Ojai is just 14 miles from the coast at Ventura, is 90 miles from the north west fringes of Los Angeles and 45 minutes drive from Santa Barbara.

Its equestrian culture is unparalleled with ranches, stables and numerous events both local and national. Many miles of horse trails thread the valley and into the parkland. There is a horse, bike and pedestrian trail on the old rail bed running from the center of town right to the coast.

ArcadeIt small size makes it perfect for bringing up children or as a welcome rest in retirement and everything else inbetween. There are festivals and events throught the year from art walks to the teeming artists studios in the valley to wine festivals and so much more. There are excellent public and private schools, golf courses, spas, art galleries, boutiques and a full range of restaurants to suit every taste. Most stores are family or privately owned with a minimum of franchises which contributes to the atmospher of an America that predates the strip mall. But if you can't find what you want in the several supermarkets, hardware stores, shops and markets, Ventura with all its suppliers is just down the road.

Pink MomentLocal farmers sell their produce at the Sunday Farmer's Market. Here you can find the freshest of produce, often organic, lavender products, honey, flowers, a massage booth, fresh fish and much, much more. The valley has a long history of wine making and today is experiencing a resurgence of vineyards and wineries. Olive groves have sprung up in recent years with olive oil and other olive products being sold here and abroad.

Ojai is a recreational paradise with the Casitas Lake for boating and fishing, hiking and riding trails for out of doors activities, the Ojai Museum, Ojai movie theater, live theater and other diversions including the Libbey Bowl recently renovated where music festivals of all types are featured. Right next door are the tennis courts where the annual Tennis Tournament takes place. There are two 18 hole golf courses.
